Klein Oak High School honors Bush 41 as train passes campus

The Klein Oak High band played "Hail to the Chief" as Bush 41's special locomotive and train passed the campus. Thousands of others gathered near the school to watch.

Spring, TX — SPRING, Texas - “Hail to the Chief” played as President George H.W. Bush’s train passed Klein Oak High School.

The school’s band, ROTC and hundreds of others lined the railroad track. It was a real-life history lesson for Klein Oak students. The school is located within sight of the tracks.

“It’s amazing,” said band member Simon Pavlik.

Pavlik was born during the George W. Bush administration. Now he has a personal connection with his father.

“We practiced playing 'Hail to the Chief,'" Pavlik said.

Lynda Wesley, Klein Oak’s assistant principal, met President Bush years ago during an event with Chuck Norris. She said the train journey was a nice ending to an amazing life.

“It was awesome, a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Wesley said. “I was so happy I was here to see and partake in this history in the making.”

Although the train passed through here rather rapidly, no one regretted taking the time to come out and see it.
