A Jasper I.S.D. janitor has been arrested and charged with having a sexual relationship with a teen girl.

John Johnson, 40, of Jasper is charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student. Jasper Police Detective Derek Woods tells 12newsnow.com the charge applies to any employee of a school district, teacher or not, who has sexual contact with a student.

According to investigators, the relationship began in November. Lead detective Derek Woods says the relationship began when the victim was 15. She is now 16 years old and last week the victim sent a text message to a friend about the relationship.

Investigators say that an adult saw the text message and notified the victim's mother.

12 News HD also learned that Johnson worked at Jasper High School while the victim was a student there.

Police made it clear that the sexual activity did not take place on campus.

Jasper ISD officials tell 12 News HD that Johnson worked as a janitor for the last six years, but did not carry a criminal record.

On Thursday, Johnson resigned from the district; he posted $25,000 bond.
