Two men steal truck, trailer after driver drops keys, lead Beaumont cops on 15 minute chase

The owner didn't realize he'd dropped his keys but the thieves noticed and took advantage of the situation.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A pair of men are in custody after stealing a pickup truck and trailer from a gas station in the north end of Beaumont Tuesday.

The owner of a Ford F250 crew cab pickup dropped his keys and didn’t realize it, but the thieves noticed and took advantage of the situation according to police.

Two men grabbed the keys, jumped in the man’s truck and took off from the gas station in the 4800 block of Concord Road according to police.

Police chased the stolen truck and trailer into Beaumont’s south end down South MLK Parkway and around some of the side streets off of Highland Avenue police said.

Officers said the chase lasted about 15 minutes and actually went in a lot of “circles” before they pair headed back into Beaumont’s Old Town neighborhood.

Eventually police deployed spike strips and the truck was stopped near the intersection of 10th Street and McFaddin Avenue.

Both men were taken into custody at the scene and the owner got his truck back at the scene.
