Southeast Texas man sentenced to 20 years on intoxication manslaughter, assault charges

He was previously sentenced by a jury to probated prison term of 10 years in 2016 after being found guilty of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault.

BEAUMONT — A Southeast Texas man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday for intoxication manslaughter and assault after violating his probation by using marijuana.

Robert Nathan Darkins, IV, had his probation revoked and was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Criminal District Court Judge John Stevens according to a release from the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

Darkins admitted during his revocation hearing to using marijuana according to the release.

He was previously sentenced by a jury to probated prison term of 10 years in 2016 after being found guilty of intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault the release said.

Judge Stevens sentenced Darkins to 10 years for each charge and ordered the sentence to run consecutively the release said.

Darkins will not be eligible for parole until he serves at least half of each sentence without "good time credit."

He must become eligible for parole on the first sentence before he can receive credit for time served on the second sentence according to the release.
