A Southeast Texas man was sentenced to 50 years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to the shooting death of a Beaumont man in 2015.

Adam Emanuel Fuller, 29, pleaded guilty to killing Derek Phillips by shooting him in the head in the 1300 block of Central in Beaumont in January of 2015.

Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney Bob Wortham announced today that ADAM EMANUEL FULLER, 29 (DOB 1/26/1981), pled guilty to Murder in the January 6, 2015 shooting death of DEREK PHILLIPS, of Beaumont.

Beaumont Police responded to a shooting call in the 1300 block of Central after Phillips’ roommate discovered his body. He had been shot in the head. Adam Fuller was arrested shortly after and confessed to the murder. Fuller had stolen several thousand dollars in cash and other property from the deceased.

Fuller pleaded guilty in the 252nd Criminal District Court and was sentenced to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Derek Phillips’ family appeared in court and made Victim Impact Statements. They asked Fuller how he could commit such a cold blooded killing of someone who had been his friend.

Prosecutor Luke Nichols stated, “The murder of Derek Phillips was a calculated killing and robbery. This has devastated his family and we hope they are able to attain a sense of closure and justice. ”

This case was investigated by the Beaumont Police Department with assistance from the Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney’s office.
