Police: Murder suspect arrested in connection with February death of woman

Police say it happened around 12:00 a.m. on February 24.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Bond for a man arrested in connection with the death of a Port Arthur woman is set at $500,000.

Daniel Shackleford, 34, was arrested by Port Arthur Police on March 7 for the homicide of Aletha Gonzalez, 34. 

Police were called to the 2100 block of Birch Avenue around 12 a.m. Feb. 24 and found a woman unresponsive who was later pronounced dead at the scene, according a Port Arthur Police news release.

Autopsy results revealed she died as a result of blunt force trauma, according to the release. 

The victim and Shackleford were in a relationship, and the victim's name is not being given at this time, according to the release.

Shackleford was booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility on the charge of murder, according to the release.
