Person shot, killed by cousin in Newton County, officials said

"The deceased and the shooter are cousins and have had a long running feud," Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said.

NEWTON COUNTY, Texas — The Newton County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a person was allegedly shot by their own cousin. 

A 911 caller told the sheriff's office about a fatal shooting at 9:17 a.m. Friday, May 1 on County Road 1020 in the Jamestown community, located in Newton County. 

"The deceased and the shooter are cousins and have had a long running feud," Newton County Sheriff Billy Rowles said in a news release.

The Newton Police Department is assisting the Newton County Sheriff's Office in the investigation. 

Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Brenda Smith held the inquest and has ordered an autopsy, pending investigation.
