An Orange man has been arrested in the death of a man at a Lake Charles motel following a fight early Monday morning.

Jarondrick Dacole Jones, 26, of Orange, was arrested for negligent homicide in the death of Joseph Oglesby, 46, according to a release from the lake Charlies Police Department.

Lake Charles Police officers were called to the Richmond Suites Hotel in the 2600 block of Moeling Street in reference to the homicide at about 1:15 a.m. Monday morning the release said.

Officers discovered Oglesby's body and found that his wife had been beaten and observed severe bruising and swelling on her face according to the release.

Detectives with the police department later learned a witness had contacted Jones, who was acquainted with the victim and staying in a nearby room, for help.

According to the witness Jones came into the room and saw Oglesby strike his wife the release said.

Jones then intervened and grabbed Oglesby by the neck as his wife fled the room according to the release.

The struggle between Jones and Oglesby lasted for at least five minutes after which Oglesby was dead according to the release.

The coroner's preliminary investigation showed that there were signs of strangulation.

Just hours before the incident Jones and Oglesby were involved in two verbal altercations the release said.

Jones was taken to the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on a charge of negligent homicide.

According to a jailer Jones was released on a $2000 bond later in the day on Monday.
