LAKE CHARLES, La. — The man killed after being shot by a police officer early Friday morning has been identified.
Juston Joseph Landry, 26, was taken to a hospital in the area after the shooting, where he was pronounced deceased, Louisiana State Police said in a news release Friday, Jan. 11 around 5 p.m.
A man called Lake Charles Police at 12:51 a.m. and said that a man had entered the Raceway convenience store at 1213 North Martin Luther King Highway and then threatened him with a gun, according to a news release from the Lake Charles Police Department.
No more than three minutes later, officers found the suspect and "an officer involved shooting was the result," the release said. The Lake Charles Police officer found Landry about a block away.
"At some point during the encounter, [he] discharged his weapon, striking the subject," Trooper Derek Senegal said in the release.
The suspect was killed, and the Lake Charles Police officer was not injured, according to the release.
Landry collapsed in a parking lot near by, Louisiana State Police said.
The Louisiana State Police is still investigating the shooting.

Early this morning, an officer from the Lake Charles Police Department was involved in a shooting near the intersection of Martin Luther King Highway and Pineview Street in Lake Charles.
The preliminary investigation revealed an officer with the Lake Charles Police Department responded to the RaceWay gas station on Martin Luther King Highway after receiving a complaint about a subject threatening someone with a gun. The officer located the subject about a block away and at some point during the encounter discharged his weapon striking the subject, later identified as 26-year-old Juston Joseph Landry of Lake Charles. Landry collapsed in a nearby parking lot and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene at the request of Lake Charles Police Department to investigate the incident/shooting.
The investigation remains active and is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.

On Friday, January 11th, 2019 at 12:51 AM, the Lake Charles Police Department responded to 1213 North Martin Luther King, Raceway, in reference to a weapons complaint.
The caller advised a man entered into the store and threatened him with a gun.
Within 3 minutes and approximately a block away from the Raceway, Lake Charles Police Officers located the suspect, and an Officer involved shooting was the result, leaving the reported man with the gun dead.
The Lake Charles Police Department Officer was not injured.
The Louisiana State Police was notified to conduct the follow up investigation.
