Lufkin man indicted for July shooting death of a Beaumont man

An 18-year-old Lufkin man was indicted for the murder of Olajuwon Vaughns.

A Jefferson County Grand Jury indicted Matthew Clevenger, 18, for the July shooting death of 23-year-old Olajuwon Vaughns.

Vaughns was found dead at the Autumn Oaks Apartment on the 3100 block of Eastex freeway back on July 24, 2018.

Beaumont police believe an unidentified 16-year-old male is also responsible.

Police say the teen was arrested back on July 26 in Alexandria, Louisiana after he was found driving a vehicle that was used in the homicide.

Clevenger was arrested in Lufkin.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County District Attorney's Office, Kountze Police Department, Hardin County Sheriff's Office, Lufkin Police Department, Alexandria Police and the US Marshals Office assisted in the investigation.

The teen was taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center. Clevenger was taken to the Jefferson County Jail. The two suspects are charged with murder.
