Homicide suspect in custody after Beaumont Police find woman's body during call about garage apartment fire

Police are investigating the case as a homicide at this time.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A homicide suspect is in custody after a man called Beaumont Police and told them there was a fire in his garage apartment, but officers found a body at the scene Thursday night. 

Beaumont Police said to check back for more updates. 

The call originally came in as a burglary and possible arson at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 18 in the 2200 block of Evalon Avenue. 

The body was a woman, Beaumont Police Officer Haley Morrow said in a news release. 

"Detectives are investigating to determine the circumstances that led to the victim’s death," Morrow said. 

At this time, the death is being investigated as a homicide. Beaumont Police is not releasing the woman's name until she has been positively identified and family members have been notified.
