JASPER — A former Jasper Police officer has been charged with burglarizing a Jasper County police department's evidence room.
Former Jasper officer Sam Paul Brister, 39, was booked on May 8, 2018, into the Jasper County Jail on charges of burglary of a building and is suspected of burglarizing the evidence room at the Kirbyville Police Department according to Jasper County Sheriff Mitchell Newman.
He was released on a $10,000 bond the same day.
Brister, who was an officer in Jasper until late 2009, is the son of Kirbyville Police Chief Paul Brister.
The theft, which is being investigated by the Texas Rangers, was discovered on May 5, 2018 according to the sheriff's office.
