ORANGE — A Beaumont man has been found guilty of murder in a retrial in the death of a Vidor teen in a wreck five years ago.

An Orange County jury found Kelvin Lee Roy, 36, of Beaumont, guilty Wednesday afternoon for the death of Alexandria "Lexy" Bertrand, 16, in February 2014.

Bertrand died when the Honda minivan she was riding in was rear-ended at the intersection of Main Street and U.S. 90 in Vidor.

Roy was tried, convicted of murder and sentenced in February 2017 to 75 years in prison, but his conviction was later overturned because the jury was not allowed to consider a lesser charge of intoxication manslaughter.

Prosecutors argued that Roy intentionally tried to kill himself and his passenger by slamming into the vehicle that Bertrand was in. He and the passenger survived, but Bertrand did not.
