Attorney for man charged in beach brawl has court appearance moved citing finals, football schedule

Several new court filings were made this month in the cases of four men from Orange accused in the March 2017 beating of another Orange County man at a Galveston County beach.

Several new court filings were made this month in the cases of four men from Orange accused in the March 2017 beating of another Orange County man at a Galveston County beach.

On December 7 Sean Villery-Samuel, attorney for Deionte Thompson, 20, who currently plays football at Alabama, filed a motion for continuance of a December 21 conference setting.

The motion for continuance was granted and the hearing was rescheduled for February 2, 2018.

Villery-Samuel cited Thompson's final exam schedule and his practice and playoff schedule with the Alabama football team.

Thompson's attorney also noted in the filing that Thompson had not committed any new offense or violated the conditions of his bond.

On December 20 the court ordered that Rufus Joseph 18, and Daletredricc Wolford, 21, both submit to drug screenings every 30 days.

Failure to to follow the order or a positive drug screen could result in their bond being modified or revoked.

On December 18 a discovery hearing was set for Morris Joseph, Jr., on January 31, 2018.

Rufus Joseph, Thompson, Morris Joseph, Jr. and Wolfford, all of Orange were each indicted, October 26, 2017, on a felony aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury charge in Galveston County.

Morris Joseph, Rufus Joseph and Thompson are former West Orange-Stark High School football players and Thompson is currently a sophomore at Alabama.
