CapMetro breaks ground on Red Line station at 66-acre mixed-use development near Austin's Domain

The Broadmoor Station is one of two new stations.

AUSTIN, Texas — Capital Metro (CapMetro), Austin's public transit system, announced it broke ground Tuesday on Broodmoor Station, a new MetroRail Red Line station in Uptown ATX

Uptown ATX is a 66-acre master-planned mixed-use development near The Domain worth $3 billion.

CapMetro said the new MetroRail station will provide reliable multi-modal transit connections throughout Austin, along with safe pathways and access for both pedestrians and cyclists. The transit system also said the station will provide two double-length, covered platforms for customers to wait comfortably and safely, as well as more than 400 shared parking spaces for transit users.

The canopy covering the platforms is designed to be an architectural feature.

In 2019, KVUE reported CapMetro was working on bringing two new MetroRail stations to the Red Line: the Broodmoor Station and the McKalla Place Rail Station at McKalla Place soccer stadium.

In September 2021, KVUE's Bryce Newberry reported on the beginning phases of CapMetro's MetroRail Red Line improvement project, which is worth nearly $9 million. Voters in November 2020 approved Project Connect, a $7.1 billion transit investment for Austin. Of that, $25 million was dedicated to Red Line improvements, including this project.

The Red Line runs from Leander to Downtown Austin with stops at places near The Domain, ACC Highland and, eventually, the new McKalla Place at Q2 Stadium stop.
