BEAUMONT, Texas — A multi-billion dollar project originally planned for another city is getting a new home in Beaumont.

American Ethane and Martin Midstream will be building a portion of an ethane export project at its Martin Midstream facility in Beaumont company spokesman John Houghtaling told 12News on Friday.

Ground breaking for the project originally scheduled to be built elsewhere will be on Monday, January 14, 2019, he said.

The project is part of an export project highlighted by President Donald Trump during the 2017 U.S./China Beijing Summit he said.

He said the overall project, which will triple U.S. ethane production, will provide about 5,000 construction and production jobs throughout the United States, and $8 billion in US Infrastructure.

About 1,000 construction jobs will be at the Beaumont project Houghtaling said.

The groundbreaking is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, at 1 Gulf States Road in Beaumont.
