Brain game could reduce dementia risk

For the first time ever, researchers have managed to reduce people's risk for dementia by playing a computer game.

For the first time ever, researchers have managed to reduce people’s risk for dementia by playing a computer game.

Researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health say the training nearly halved the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease and other devastating forms of cognitive and memory loss in older adults a decade after they completed it.

Medical journals report that if all this holds up in extended testing, the program would be the the first of any kind, including drugs, diet, and exercise, to do that.

The results were presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Toronto. Researchers say the games also help prevent against depression because they get people up, moving and thinking.

The game used in the study is called Brain HQ.

A subscription to Brain HQ costs between $8 - 14 per month. There's also an app people can use on a phone or iPad.
