BEAUMONT, Texas —

On Saturday morning the 12News family set about to "Clear the Shelter" at the Humane Society of Southeast Texas in Beaumont.

By about 4 p.m. more than 35 animals had been adopted and will be going to their "furever" homes.

12News is joining NBC and Telemundo stations across the country to team up with hundreds of shelters across the country to host Clear the Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption drive in August 2021 that helps find loving homes for animals in need. More than 551,000 pets have found their forever homes since 2015.

More than 1,000 shelters and rescues around the country have already registered to participate in this year's campaign.

Franklin Ross, of Beaumont, showed up at the Humane Society and will soon be bringing not one, but two puppies.

"I saw one of the dogs on TV and thought I’m in the market for a dog. I showed up, checked it out and I adopted two," Ross told 12News on Saturday.

Franklin Ross, of Beaumont, heard 12News' plea this week to help clear the shelters and Saturday he adopted two puppies, Lucky and Princess, at the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.

Once they've been chipped and are ready, Lucky and Princess will be going home with Ross to their "furever home."

"I’ve been meaning to adopt a dog for a long time. Dogs aren’t like people, they will never betray you," he said.

The 12News crew will be out at the humane society until 4 p.m. Saturday helping find homes for these pets.

"At the humane society, it’s a great selection and the dogs are so so beautiful, nice and have personalities," Ross said.
