'BMT Film Fest' features six nights of foreign, indpendent films in downtown Beaumont

BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas film buffs can enjoy a week of classic foreign films this August in the historic downtown Jefferson Theatre.

The City of Beaumont will present the "BMT Film Fest" featuring an opening talk by Beaumont native Jesse Dayton on his travels across the U.S. and Europe as a touring musician and director according to a news release from the City of Beaumont.

Dayton will kick off the festival on Monday, August 5, 2019, with his talk before the first screening according to the release.

The festival runs Monday through Saturday, August 5 – 10, 2019 with doors opening at 6 p.m. and screenings at 7:30 p.m. nightly.

The festival will screen several feature films, documentaries, shorts and animated films as well as student films on Saturday, August 10, 2019.

Screenings will begin at 2 p.m. Awards will be presented at 6 p.m.

Saturday evening will end with the screening of "Not Me," which was directed by Lamar University professor Mamoud Slimi.

Tickets, which are $5 for each evening or $20 for a pass for all five nights, can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Beaumont Civic Center Box office.

The box office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dayton has licensed more than 50 songs for film and television and wrote and directed a horror film, “Zombex” starring Malcolm McDowell the release said.

He’s known for playing guitar on albums by Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson the release said.

Dayton has also worked with horror film director Rob Zombie who has commissioned him to record music for Zombie’s films the release said.
