Mike Canizales is the weekend sports anchor at 12NewsNow in Beaumont, Tx.

Canizales, who was born in Port Arthur and raised in Port Neches, joined the 12News team in March of 2019.

After he graduated from Port Neches-Groves High School Canizales attended Northern Kentucky University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Electronic Media & Broadcasting with a minor in Journalism.

While at NKU Canizales worked as a sports writer in 2017 and sports editor in 2018 at the student-run newspaper, The Northerner.

He also worked as a freelance sports writer for the Northern Kentucky Tribune in Edgewood, Kentucky.

Canizales covered sports from May 2018 through January 2019 as an intern at WXIX-Fox 19 in Cincinnati.

While there he covered high school and college sports at Northern Kentucky, Xavier University and the University of Cincinnati as well as professional sports in Cincinnati.

Canizales, who enjoys discussing all-things involving sports and pop culture, is a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Rockets, Houston Astros, University of Texas.

He's also a huge professional wrestling fan and actually moved to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler.

Canizales trained at Ohio Valley Wrestling which, at the time he was there, was a WWE training center.

From an early age Canizales knew he wanted to work in entertainment, sports, or both, so if his career wasn't going to be as a professional wrestler then it would be in sport broadcasting.

He and his wife, who have been together for more than 10 years, got engaged at a castle in Versailles, Kentucky, and made it official in Mexico.

They're expecting their first child in August 2019.

In his spare time Canizales loves reading, working out, playing old-school video games and exploring Southeast Texas with his family.
