Erika Walker joined the 12News team in August 2017.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Erika grew up watching the news every morning before school instead of the typical morning cartoons.
Because of this, her mother says she always knew Erika would end up working in the journalism industry one day.
Prior to her time at 12News, Erika worked at the FOX affiliate in San Angelo, Texas as a production assistant while in her freshman year at Angelo State University.
Just before her junior year, she moved her way up and became the producer for the station’s brand new morning show.
In addition to her time at the station, Erika has worked as a radio news reporter and producer. She also spent some time working in print news as an online editor, sports reporter, copy editor and staff writer.
Sharing the same hometown as her biggest journalism inspiration, John Quiñones, she has learned through his story that with hard work, dedication and the right mindset -- anything is possible.
In the words of Quiñones himself: "Miracles start to happen when you give as much energy to your dreams as you do to your fears."
Through her work, she hopes to always shine a light on real world situations and give a voice to the voiceless.
