Representing the Cardinals (15-3-1 overall, 10-1-0 Southland) on the first team were Peskin and Lucy Ashworth at forward, Marie Lund at defender and M.J. Eckart at midfielder. Goalkeeper Lauren Lovejoy and defender Amelia Fullmer were named to the second team.

“It’s been an incredible year for this program,” said Holeman, who orchestrated a turnaround for the Cardinals, who finished 12th last season before winning the title this year. “I’m excited for the players who have been recognized on the all-conference team. To have six players recognized is amazing and a testament to all the hard work this team has put in.

Peskin, who came to LU after two seasons at Tyler Junior College, leads the Cardinals in scoring with 26 points on eight goals and 10 assists. She had seven goals and five assists to lead LU with 19 points in conference play.

Ashworth, a freshman, was second on the team in scoring with 15 points on four goals and seven assists. She had two goals and seven assists for 11 points in Southland play.

Eckart, a senior, was a solid two-way player for the Cardinals this season. She had five goals and three assists for 13 points overall, including 12 points in Southland play.

Lund, a senior, is tied with Ashworth for the team lead with three game-winning goals. Lund had five goals and one assist for 11 points during the season, including nine points on four goals and one assist.

Lovejoy, a senior, has played every second in goal for LU this season. Her eight shutouts this season are a school record, while her 0.99 goals-against average is on pace to be a school record. Her 23 career wins are an LU record as well.

Fullmer, LU’s steadiest defender, came to the Cardinals after two seasons at Iowa Western College, where she earned junior college All-America honors last season. Fullmer leads all LU field players with 1,640 minutes played this season, and played all but 27 minutes in conference competition.

The four first-team selections and six overall all-conference selections are the most for the Cardinals in the 11-year history of the program. Peskin is the first Cardinals to be named newcomer of the year, while Holeman is the first LU soccer coach to be tabbed as coach of the year.

The Cardinals open Southland Conference Tournament play when they meet the host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders in the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
