Beaumont man charged with aggravated assault after beating man Tuesday morning in north Beaumont

Beaumont police were dispatched to a reported fight at about 8 a.m. Friday morning and found a man suffering from serious injuries in front of the Dairy Queen on East Lucas.

One man is in custody and one man has been hospitalized in critical condition after being beaten in front of a fast food restaurant in north Beaumont.

Charles Franklin,57, of Beaumont, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and booked into the Jefferson County Correctional Center after being interviewed by detectives at the Beaumont Police Department according to a release from the police department.

A witness told 12News that while entering a nearby business he noticed the victim in front of the Dairy Queen screaming at someone.

When he walked out of the business a few minutes later he saw the victim being beaten with some kind of a pole by Franklin.

When the Franklin noticed the witness he stopped beating the man and walked away from the victim.

Police believe that the fight was the result of a previous altercation between the two men.
