Nederland couple beaten in home invasion, police seek three suspects

NEDERLAND - A Nederland couple was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth following a home invasion Wednesday afternoon.

A Police Department Spokesperson told 12News the home invasion happened around 1:30 p.m. at a house located at 716 9th Street.  This is near the corner with Helena Avenue.

Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said three white men knocked on the door saying they had a delivery.  When the door was opened, the men rushed into the house.

Chief Bush said the intruders beat the man, 70, and his wife, 59, then bound them with duct tape. He said the robbers then asked for money and the couple told them that they had no cash in the house.

The men searched the house, then fled in a white pickup truck.

Collin Tullos lives across the street from the house that was invaded. Tullos said the man, still bound and bloody, came to his door looking for help but he didn't hear the man's cry for help.

"It makes me feel sick that I didn't hear my door knock," Tullos said. "I definitely feel for him, I feel bad that he came over to my house knocking on my door, asking for help."

Tullos said after the robbers duct taped the couple, beat them and demanded money, they didn't stop there.

"From what I understand they put his wife in a box and they finally found her, he thought they kidnapped her," he said.

Tullos said the vicious home invasion has left him on edge and angry.

"Makes me sick that someone would go to that extent and do that to someone that's defenseless," he said. "They're older, [the intruders] are younger much quick and stronger, it's pretty cowardly."

Chief Bush said it is not believed that the men were armed and the couple's injuries are not life threatening.
