Rig experiences "blowout" in Tyler County; oil leaking

Posted: Updated:
A company drilling for oil in Tyler County had a "blowout" situation, which happens when pressure is uncontrollable.

12News has learned that around 1 a.m. Monday, a drilling company experienced a wellhead problem and lost control, sending oil and mud gushing into the air at Dam B, near Hwy. 190.

The blowout was under control by 1 p.m.

A safety plan has been put into place to monitor if there is environmental damage to the area.

Cleanup at the site is expected to take at least until Thursday.
