Pride restored in Beaumont with the start of football season

BEAUMONT - It was unlike any other opening night of high school football in Beaumont.

It's been a whirlwind year for the Beaumont Independent School District, after accusations of mismanagement, corruption and a lack of public confidence, which lead to a state takeover of the school district.

Now it's finally time for the joy of high school football.

Despite it being an emotional summer for the Beaumont community, the first game of the season between Ozen and Port Arthur Memorial gave students, parents and football fans something to cheer about.

Although it was Memorial who brought home the win, the game brought something everyone can agree on.

“I'm just ready to get it started put all that behind us and I'm ready for the kickoff,” Ozen fan Jonathan Johnson said.

Leave it to football, to help restore that faith and pride.

“We done lost so much so it's time to come together, simple as that," Ozen fan Jerry Prudhomme said.

Just like the season that's beginning to change, so is the outlook by the Beaumont community and a hope for a more successful year.

The Ozen Panthers will have another shot on the field Friday Sept. 5 when they play West Brook.
