Jefferson County public corruption task force question BISD maintenance employees

The Beaumont Independent School District says it is cooperating with current and past reviews being conducted by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

The district issued that statement in response to a 12News report confirming that the county's public corruption task force questioned BISD maintenance workers this week.

It's part of the district attorney's ongoing investigation into BISD.

Superintendent Vern Butler said his goal is to make sure school business proceeds as it should, and he handle the burden of the investigation, not those involved in the classroom.  He said, "We have to be able to accept that responsibility, and carry that weight and allow teachers and our principals to do the jobs on our campuses, so I want to divert that as much as I can so that we're taking care of the governance and those types of issues."

Jefferson County District Attorney Cory Crenshaw has told 12News dozens of indictments could come from the investigation into BISD in the coming weeks.

However sources tell us not to expect any this week.
