Kirbyville woman indicted on four counts in connection with crash that killed three

A Jasper County woman was indicted Thursday on three counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with deadly weapon for her role in a February accident that killed a pregnant woman, her sister and her unborn child.

Crystal Boyett, 40, of Kirbyville, was indicted by a Hardin County grand jury for the the accident that claimed the life of the driver, Courtney Sterling, 15, of Lumberton, her older sister, Connely Burns, 20, of Lumberton, and Burns' unborn child.

The Lumberton police chief said Boyett was driving as fast as 150 miles per hour when her Camaro struck the back of the victims' Nissan Murano.

Their mother, Dawn Sterling, 46, of Lumberton, was also injured in the accident but was later released.

Police say Boyett posted a $1.5 million bond in June.

Crystal's sister Charlotte Lummus said her sister has been diagnosed with a mental disorder and was speeding away from voices in her head.

But no explanation is enough for the family of those killed.

Sonia Burns was Connely's mother-in law and the grandmother of the unborn baby, who would have been Burn's first grandson.

Burns said, "We're outraged by the injustice of it, that someone could be so careless and take so many lives.

Burns says her son Tim and Connely had been married less than a year.
