WEATHERFORD (KDAF) -- Someone in Weatherford, Texas is burning American Flags.

"I got to the edge of the porch and I'm like, 'Where's my flag?' I'm looking up, and going, 'Where is my flag?" asked Karmenn Goff.

Someone had stolen something that means a lot to Goff's military family.

"There it was, laying in the street. Burned. It's not like you can come up here and grab it. It's fastened to the house. Then I called the Weatherford Police Department," she said.

The police department called in the Fire Marshal.

"Look at the one behind me on the flag pole," said Fire Marshal Bob Hopkins.

"They'll take that down, pole and all, take it to the driveway or out to the street, and set it on fire there. In a couple of cases, it looks as if they've used some sort of accelerant," said Hopkins.

Goff's house wasn't the only one hit. The burned flag count is up to eight.

The flag burners are going to get more than just a slap on the wrist.

"Anything from criminal trespassing to arson," Hopkins added.  "Anytime fire is involved in anything. That's usually a felony offense," he said.

One thing's for sure. These guys are messing with the wrong military mamma, who put the stars and stripes right back up!

"As a mother of two sons who are serving in Afghanistan," Goff said, "I was red hot mad. Somebody was pretty gutsy to build a fire in a busy street. My sons are serving in the military for someone's right to burn their own flag on their own property. But not on mine, and not my flag."

A $3,000 is now being offered to track down those who are stealing and burning flags across Weatherford. Parker County Crime Stoppers is offering $2,000 and a local car dealer is contributing an additional $1,000 to help solve the crime, for a total reward of $3,000.

If you have any information that can lead to an arrest, call Crime Stoppers at (817) 599-5555 or 1-800-942-STOP. You can remain anonymous.
