LEAGUE CITY, Texas - Six people were killed in League City Sunday night when a speeding SUV driver slammed into another vehicle while attempting to flee Dickinson police, authorities said.

According to police, the chase began when an officer tried pulling over a Dodge Durango in Dickinson. The driver refused to stop and led police on a chase, with speeds reaching 100 mph.

When the Durango reached the intersection of Ohio Street at FM 646, it crashed into another vehicle. Six people were in both vehicles, which were mangled in the wreck. Three victims were ejected in the crash.

All six were pronounced dead at the scene.

The League City Police Department posted the following message on its Facebook page:

“Words fall flat at a time like this, but our thoughts and prayers go out to the family members that lost loved ones last night and to all the emergency responders involved at the accident scene. At 8:30 p.m. yesterday, we got a call from the Dickinson Police Department to assist at a major accident scene at the League City/Dickinson city limits involving two vehicles. The accident occurred at the intersection of Ohio and FM 646. League City Police Department Accident Reconstruction Officers and Crime Scene Investigators are at the scene. Information is limited at this time.”

Power crews were also called to the scene to repair several downed power lines. Officials said close to 100 households lost power when the lines were damaged in the crash.
