MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- An explosion and fire was reported at a home north of Conroe early Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the explosion leveled a one-story home. It happened in the 5500 block of Mandy Lane in Willis sometime before 5 a.m.
Two Life Flight helicopters were called to the scene and took patients to the hospital around 6 a.m. Three people were listed in critical condition, authorities said.
One witness tells KHOU 11 that the explosion was heard and felt several miles away.
The debris field extends about 600 feet from the blast site. Witnesses said two of the victims were thrown from the explosion while a third person crawled out of the rubble.
Neighbors said the family had several dogs, and not all were accounted for after the blast.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives was looking over the scene in the hours after the incident.
According to the Montgomery County Fire Department, the couple who lived at the home had a 250 gallon propane tank.
A cause for the blast has not yet been determined.
