Police release identity of man killed in accident

BEAUMONT - A Beaumont Police Department spokesperson has released the identity of a man killed in an accident Friday morning.

The deceased is identified as Eduardo Daniel Velazquez Deleon. 23, of Mexico.  Beaumont Police Officer Carol Riley said Deleon was in Beaumont visiting his mother.

The accident happened shortly before midnight.  Deleon was riding a 2005 Honda 600 RR motorcycle that collided with a 2011 4-Door Nissan Maxima at the intersection of South Martin Luther King Jr Parkway at Elgie Street.  The spokesperson said the Nissan was going east in the 500 block of E. Elgie and turned to head north bound on S. MLK. As the driver pulled out into the intersection, the motorcycle, which was going south on S. MLK,  struck the left passenger area.

A 3-year-old male child was sitting in a car seat in the left passenger side.  The child was taken by Beaumont EMS to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth and later flown by medical helicopter to Texas Children Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

The driver of the Maxima was stable and treated at Christus Saint Elizabeth and was last reported in stable condition.
