Operations at a standstill following fire at Chevron Phillips

The Chevron Phillips plant in Port Arthur remained shut down Tuesday following an apparent flash fire Monday night. A spokesperson confirmed two people were injured in the fire.

12News has confirmed one is listed in serious condition at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. The Port Arthur Police Chief said the second victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. That worker's condition is unknown.

A spokesperson said both are employees at the plant, not contractors.

The rest of the plant's 250 employees and 75 contractors are still required to show up for work. Chevron Phillips has not yet said exactly where the fire started within the plant. A cause for the fire remains under investigation and plant operations will remain shut down indefinitely.
