Plant manager makes statement as Chevron assembles team to investigate fire that injured two

A spokesperson for Chevron Phillips Chemical Company Tuesday morning said the plant emergency response team is continuing to monitor the situation following a fire that injured two employees.

“We are deeply saddened to report that two employees were injured during the incident and transported to the hospital where they remain for treatment,” said Margie Conway, plant manager at Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Port Arthur Plant.

“Safety is fundamental to our company culture and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families during this time,” he said.

The statement says a team of experts from other Chevron Phillips Chemical facilities has been assembled and has begun the investigation to determine the root cause of the incident and notes that the company is cooperating with federal, state and local authorities.

“We want to thank the Port Arthur fire and police departments and our industry neighbors for helping with the emergency response,” said Conway.

“We appreciate all the support that has been extended during this difficult time.”
