Majority of Jefferson County commissioners opposed to housing immigrants in SETX

One location proposed for housing unaccompanied immigrant children is in Beaumont.

Catholic Charities has proposed using the former Al Price Juvenile Correctional Facility for the detainees.  The facility is not in use at the moment.

12News learned on Monday that many of the Jefferson County commissioners have reservations or full-fledged concerns that bringing the immigrants here might strain health, education, and other government services.
Commissioners Bo Alfred and Michael Sinegal appeared open to discussion, but concerned about health issues.   Commissioner Eddie Arnold was noncommittal until he can read details.
