Driver of 18-wheeler cut out of truck following I-10 accident

The driver of an 18-wheeler was taken to Christus Hospital St. Elizabeth in Beaumont with internal injuries following an accident Monday afternoon on Interstate 10 near the Taylor Bayou Bridge.

The accident was reported around 3 p.m. Monday.

The driver was trapped in the cab when emergency crews arrived.  He had to be cut out of the truck.

The truck was carrying herbicide.  Some of the cargo leaked from the truck.  A firefighter on the scene said the herbicide is not considered hazardous.

As of 3:50 p.m. one westbound lane of Interstate 10 remained closed.
