Graco has announced the largest recall of infant car seats in American history.

Graco is recalling 1.9 million car seats after a five-month spat with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Earlier this year, the company recalled more than 4 million toddler seats for a harness buckle problem.

The buckles can get gummed up by food and drinks, making it difficult for parent to remove children from the seats.

In some cases, parents had to cut the harnesses to get their kids out.

But until now, Graco didn't want to recall the infant seats -- despite the NHTSA's urging.

Graco argued that in an emergency, an adult could remove the whole seat rather than just using the buckle.

Now Graco is offering a free harness buckle replacement.

Several Snugride and Aprica models are affected. They were sold between 2010 and 2013.

To find out if your carseat is among those recalled, can call 877-766-7470 or visit the company's website.

Infant Seats Included in the Graco Buckle Recall:

  • SnugRide an SnugRide Classic Connect produced between March 1, 2011-May 31, 2013
  • SnugRide 30 and SnugRide Classic Connect 30: July 2010-Jan. 31, 2013
  • SnugRide 35 Classic Connect 35: May 1, 2011-Jan. 31, 2013
