CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities are investigating a deadly boat collision on Lake Conroe.

Officials say around 9:00pm Tuesday, two people on a bass boat were leaving a fishing tournament near the east beach of Lake Conroe. The boat came around the bend and slammed into a pleasure boat with eight people on board.

Both men on the fishing boat were thrown into the water. One adult woman on the second boat was killed and a second adult woman is still missing.

Two emergency helicopters were called to the scene and took a 3-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. The boy has since died.

The other six patients were transported to other regional hospitals by ambulance.

Eyewitness News learned one of the men on the fishing boat was country music singer Josh Ward. His family says Ward suffered a broken arm and internal injuries in the crash.

The driver of the fishing boat told investigators he did not see the pleasure boat until it was too late to avoid a collision. The driver claims the second boat did not have any lights turned on, making it difficult to know there was another vessel on the water at night.
