Sources say BISD's Sybil Comeaux has turned in resignation

BEAUMONT - Sources tell 12News the Beaumont Independent School District's executive director of personnel has turned in her resignation, effective Monday.

Sybil Comeaux, 73, has faced criticism in recent months over her hiring practices, and was instrumental in developing the lists of layoffs of more than 100 BISD employees.

She spent her Monday morning in the courtroom, where she was scheduled to testify in the temporary restraining order hearing on BISD employee Ron Reynolds.

Reynolds is appealing his proposed termination from the district, claiming it was in retaliation for providing media information on the district.

Most of Comeaux' career as an educator has been at BISD.  She has been in education for about 50 years.  Based on a Texas Tribune salary survey Comeaux' salary in 2012 was $105,500 a year.

Comeaux is the former principal of Central Medical Magnet School.
