BISD employee says his job was cut because of retaliation, seeks injunction against district

A Beaumont Independent School District employee who filed for a temporary restraining order to prevent the district from laying him off is in court today

Last week, School Business Volunteer Supervisor Ron Reynolds' name was removed from the list of employees to be laid off pending today's court hearing.  Reynolds maintains his position was placed on the chopping block out of retaliation over his release of information pertaining to Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Patricia Lambert.

Reynolds' attorney said his client is being targeted because he followed the law concerning release of information.  He hopes a judge will upgrade the TRO to an injunction.  An injunction would prevent Reynolds from being laid off until his case goes to trial.

Reynolds said media requests were illegally obstructed and delayed by the district.

BISD Superintendent Timothy Chargois testified at the hearing.  He said he did not propose names of people to be laid off on June 19.  He said he did propose positions to be cut, and chose positions without direct effect on students.

Dr. Chargois testified that Patricia Lambert, who announced her resignation earlier this year, left BISD for health reasons.
