Beaumont ISD superintendent has announced plans to resign

Posted:
Embattled Beaumont Independent School District superintendent Timothy Chargois, Ed.D has announced his plans to resign October 31, 2014, as superintendent of schools.  This after heading the district for two controversial and divisive years.

His resignation will be discussed as an agenda item Monday's special meeting.

Trustees will also consider laying off approximately 110 contract administrators and teachers to be part of the reduction in force being implemented under the district's recent declaration of financial exigency.

In a statement released late Friday, Chargois said, "I thank the board of trustees, employees, students, parents, citizens and the Beaumont community as a whole for allowing me the opportunity to work at this awesome and most noble task of making sure we focused on the total well-being of every child, every day.  In the coming weeks, I hope to have returned BISD to optimum fiscal fitness."

The superintendent said he plans to present the trustees with a balanced budget.

Board President Gwen Ambres said her prayers go with Dr. Chargois and his family.  She said, "He is a good man and his heart has been in the right.
