Beaumont ISD students meet Saturday to discuss district financial crisis

Posted: Updated:
Some Beaumont Independent School District students are at it again. This time, they met to discuss the district's budget.

Students spent their Saturday at Theodore Johns Library looking for places in the budget where cuts can be made without having to cut the jobs of teachers.

In recent weeks, students across the district have been vocal saying they're not going down without a fight.

Gina Martin is the Director of Theater at Ozen High School. She led the budget meeting with the students.

The district has postponed a decision on if teacher jobs will be cut until this upcoming week.

Board members are asking for more information and other options to those proposed layoffs.

Among the options: salary reductions for all employees, a one-and-a-half percent property tax hike and closing some schools.
