Beaumont native Anthony Broussard shot an 8-over par 78 in his first experience at the US Open at Pinehurst, NC. Broussard , who started on the back nine, double bogeyed 11 and bogeyed 12 before getting one stroke back with a long birdie putt on 14. That would be his one big highlite of the day. He made the turn at +3 and then faltered on the last three holes going bogey, double and then a bogey for a +8/78. Broussard is tied for 144th.
Martin Kaymer, who won the players championship a month ago, shot a -5/65 for a three stroke lead going into round 2.
