Port Arthur drowning victim identified

Port Arthur fire department says they have identified the body of a man believed to have drowned in the ship channel behind Port Arthur City Hall 

Authorities believe 37-year-old Marlin Wayne Francois, a lifelong Port Arthur resident, drowned when fell into the ship channel behind Port Arthur City Hall Wedensday.

First responders were called to scene at about 2 p.m. and Francois' body was recovered within 15 minutes of divers entering the water.

According to a press release from the Port Arthur Police Department, a resident of Pleasure Island witnessed Francois fall into the water and quickly flagged down a Coast Guard boat. The Coast Guard immediately began a search and was joined by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Marine Unit as well as the Port Arthur Fire and Rescue team.

A bike and fishing pole were found nearby the scene.
