A tractor trailer accident shut down a portion of Cardinal Drive after the material it was carrying spills onto the highway.

The incident happened just before 9:30 a.m. in the westbound lane of Cardinal Drive near the Highland Avenue exit when the trailer started swerving behind the truck.

All westbound lanes are shut down while crews work to clean up the spill. The driver and a passenger of the truck were transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Lanes are expected to reopen within an hour.
