Little girl found dead, wrapped in blankets in refrigerator at SW Houston apartment

Posted:
HOUSTON KPRCHomicide detectives were called to an apartment complex in southwest Houston after firefighters went inside and found a little girl dead in the kitchen wrapped in blankets.

Now the father of a little girl found dead inside an apartment is opening up about her tragic death, and raising questions as police search for the girl's mother.

Police found her body inside an apartment at 10110 Club Creek Drive and say she may have been there for days. A concerned neighbor called the Houston Fire Department and asked someone to come check on the little girl.

According to Houston police, the neighbor entered the residence through an unlocked door and found the child wrapped in blankets in the kitchen. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the child deceased.

Child Protective Services is questioning the victim's 5-year-old sister to find out what she may know about the death of her older sister. CPS investigators took the little girl from her father's house Tuesday afternoon. She'll be placed with another relative.

Her severely handicapped sister, Ayahna, was found lifeless at the family's apartment Monday by a neighbor. Police still aren't sure how long she had been dead. The girls' mother hasn't been seen since Monday.

The children's father says he last talked to his ex-girlfriend early Monday when she arranged to drop the youngest child off with his mother.

"I have a lot of questions, man. I just want to know what happened. How did you get in that situation and how did she die?" said Armand Combs.

Ayahna, 9, was severely handicapped. She suffered from cerebral palsy. Family friend Henry Cosey says she was completely helpless.

"The child couldn't do anything on her own. She was completely unable to do anything for herself. I know her mother fed her, but she was still bottle feeding her at 9 years old," said Cosey.

He says the girls' mother, Amber Keys, was her sole supporter and caregiver. So far Keys hasn't been found.

The investigation is pending the child's cause of death, to be determined by an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
