Jury selection begins in Gregory George capital murder trial

Posted: Updated:
BEAUMONT -

Jury selection began today for a 32-year-old Southeast Texas man indicted on a capital murder charge after he was accused of killing a father of five.

According to police Gregory Adam George gunned down Jose Luis Morales in April 2011 at the victim's home in the 1300 block of Ave. E in Beaumont.

George is also one of three men responsible for an aggravated robbery that took place outside the Star Bowling Alley in Beaumont around the time of Morales' murder.

George’s criminal record dates back to 1999 and includes convictions of drug possession, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing, evading arrest in a motor vehicle and aggravated robbery just to name a few.

Detectives told 12News that while police interviewed George about the robbery, they received strong evidence that he was responsible for the murder of Morales.

However George denied killing Morales when confronted by 12News during his arrest in 2011.

George has been out of jail on a $300,000 dollar bond.

Opening arguments will begin Tuesday in Judge John Steven's court. If found guilty of capital murder George faces up to life in prison.
