A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Fire Department Friday said a man was arrested Thursday for arson.

The spokesperson said Dat Pham set fire to a home located at 3649 9th St. on May 26, 2014. The owners of the home were not at home at the time and there were no injuries due to the fire.

The fire burned out without causing significant damage to the home.

The fire department was not notified at the time because the fire burned itself out. This incident was discovered by Fire Investigators while they were investigating an intentionally set fire at a house located at 1021 9th Avenue on May 31, 2014.

The spokesperson said there have been 11 intentionally set fires in this same area along 9th Avenue and Gulfway Drive since January of this year. Fire investigators consider the majority of these to be related and are looking to file additional charges on these fire in the future.

Arson of a habitation is a 1st degree felony punishable by imprisonment of 5 – 99 years in jail.

Dat Pham was also arrested in 2005 and 2010 on Arson warrants.
