Friends say murder victim received death threats from ex-boyfriend before shooting

Kountze Police have charged Sandy Ray Irvine, 43, with murder in the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Luquinta Powell 29. Irvine is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after police say he also shot Terrion Moffett, 33, four times in the back.

The shooting happened at around 7:15 a.m. Monday at a house located at 130 S. Pecan Street in Kountze. A neighbor said he called 911 after hearing gunshots. The shooter, identified by police as Irvine, had already fled the scene before officers arrived.

Powell used to work part time with maintenance at the Hardin County Courthouse. a Former coworker said she had mentioned Irvine's name in the past.

"She just told me he was trouble. That he was always threatening her. That he was going to kill her. And whoever she was with.. She was scared," Angela Mancera said.

Powell had recently started working two new jobs and her former coworkers say she was happy. Her mom passed away more than a year ago and Powell was making enough money to support two younger siblings according to those who used to work alongside her.

Irvine remains in the Hardin County Jail on bonds totaling more than $1 million.

Robinson Funeral Home in Silsbee is handling funeral arrangements for Powell.
