CPS investigating near drowning of Newton County toddler

NEWTON COUNTY - Child Protective Services spokesperson Shari Pulliam told 12News that the agency is investigating a near drowning of a Newton County toddler.

The incident happened Saturday afternoon at a pool at a home in a rural area near Highway 87. A source told 12News the child, believed to be three-years-old, was spotted at the bottom of the pool. The father reportedly pulled the child out of the pool and gave CPR. According to the source, the toddler had a pulse when an ambulance arrived and transported the the child to the hospital.

12News has not been able to confirm the child's condition. It is not known at this time if the toddler is a boy or a girl.
